I brought Drake to Sheena
for Force Fetch training after he had already had two
months of training with Ben Garcia at Hideaway Kennels.
Ben had highly recommended Sheena from the day I dropped
Drake off with him if he ended up needing Force Fetched.
Drake had a fairly good basis to work off of after
ending his training with Ben. He did have one major
issue with his “Gun Dog” talents; he loved to eat the
birds instead of fetching them. Finding the bird was no
problem, trying to get the bird from him before he
mangled them was!
Enter Sheena! What a personality, very open and honest
to talk with. From the first e-mail I received I felt
comfortable leaving my best friend with her. We had
several e-mailings about what Drake needed and where I
was on a personal level with him (we are very close and
he is used to coming everywhere with me). When I dropped
Drake off with Sheena I was very happy to find that she
was incredibly nice and welcomed us into her home. The
kennel Drake was to be in was very clean and in very
good condition. I liked the fact that she has kids that
Drake could be around and just be the puppy with! You
could tell the emotional bond and enthusiasm that Sheena
puts into her training just from being at her home.
Drake was with Sheena for a little over a month to
finish his Force Fetch. We received updates on Drake’s
progress by phone and emails that also included pictures
weekly if not several times a week. When the time came
to come down and pick up Drake I had several phone
conversations with Sheena. All these conversations had
me very comfortable taking him home and progressing his
training (I would consider myself a novice at best).
When we arrived at Sheena’s home we were greeted with a
hug from her and a very happy Drake! Sheena took me to
the field and went through the routine that she had put
Drake through. She worked with me on the proper time to
correct him and the methods to do so. She even
understood the fact that I am a visual learner and took
the time to help me until I was performing everything
comfortably!
Once Drake was home my wife and I quickly realized how
much time and effort Sheena had put in with Drake! He
was to say the least, a jumper before he went to
Sheena’s. He was also very poor at hell and being
steady. Well, not anymore! We had Drake out hunting the
very next day with several other dogs whose owners
stated they had the best hunting dogs. Drake was the
ONLY dog that stayed at heel when told and held steady
even with all the gun fire and other dogs running
rampant. I was more than impressed with the way he
performed his job! Even more impressed were my friends
that couldn’t believe it was Drake’s first hunt!! My mom
came over and Drake did no jump on her (he wanted to but
didn’t) which you would have to know how much he used to
jump on her to appreciate it.
Sheena, I can not thank you enough for your
professionalism and care you gave Drake while he was at
your home, as he is like my child! My wife and I would
like to thank you on sending us a new Drake, one that
has a love for hunting to match my own and a gentleman
when he is not hunting! Your personality and passion
have made this a great experience!!
